Everybody agrees that Bali is a great holiday destination. The island is not merely about the breathtaking landscape but also its rich culture. Come to the island and you’ll get amazed on how Balinese people maintain their culture and tradition. Affected from the strong Hindu culture and tradition, the island offers something different from other island in Indonesian continent that mostly are Muslim.

The effect of Balinese Hinduism can be seen in Balinese people’s daily life, even if this is your first visit on this island. A tiny offering might be just a simple sign of Hindu-Balinese ritual besides many temples festivals and ceremonies. This leaf tray little offering named canang sari is placed everywhere in this island such as in front of Balinese house, work place, souvenir stalls and even in airport check-in desk. The offering is usually set out with burning incense stick and is made at least three times a day.

Based on their Hindu religion, festivals and ritual ceremonies are an integral part of Balinese life. Some of the major events are occurred on fixed dates based on Balinese Calendar. There are lot of festivals and ritual ceremonies that can be classified into life cycles rites and temple festivals.
The life cycle rites are ritual ceremonies according to phases of life cycles that begin from the union of husband and wife and end after a Balinese passed away with an important rite called Ngaben (cremation rite). There are many rites during the life of Balinese people include teeth file, a ritual ceremony to file the six front teeth in the upper jaw. Meanwhile, on of the important temple festival is called Odalan, a ceremony that is considered as a
temple's birthday. 

This annual ceremony is celebrated every 210 days based on Balinese calendar. It is usually held in three days. Other important festivals such as:
Galungan and Kuningan : biggest festivals in Bali. Usually Balinese people decorate their front house with a tall decorated bamboo stakes called Penjor. If you visit Bali on Galungan, you will enjoy a morning sight when Balinese bring offerings everywhere in this island. Meanwhile, Hari Raya Kuningan is the following ceremony held on Saturday, the next 10 days after Galungan.

Nyepi : is a unique celebration of Hindu-Balinese New Year. The ceremony begins on the evening before when Balinese carrying big puppet represent an evil called Ogoh Ogoh and make noise to frighten the evils and get them away from the island. On Nyepi, Balinese stay at their home. There is no light, no traffic and no activity outside their home, even for tourists.
There are many other ceremonies include Pager Wesi and Saraswati.
